Raumati Beach was laid out as a seaside resort in 1908, and its first general store was built in 1919. Today Raumati Beach and Raumati South are commuter communities that, with Paraparaumu, are among the fastest growing urban areas in New Zealand. Kāpiti Coast District Council ranks Raumati as the most vulnerable area on the coast by number of private properties at risk from erosion. Water coming through a ceiling, sewage rising in the shower or no water at all cannot wait for Monday. Our emergency plumbers cover Raumati day and night.
Raumati: beach houses behind the seawall
Raumati Beach was laid out as a seaside resort in 1908, and some of its early beach houses still stand among the newer homes built as Raumati grew into a commuter community. Those older places tend to have outdoor showers, garden taps and exposed pipe that have spent decades in salt air. A tap that will not close or a corroded fitting that splits can leak for hours before anyone notices, especially in a bach that is not lived in full time.
That matters more on the Kāpiti Coast, because every property has a water meter and water lost on your side of it is billed to you. Raumati's supply comes from the Waikanae River and the Waikanae borefield, through the district council, which also deals with leaks on the public side. If you see water pooling near the meter box or the street, we can tell you on the phone whether it sounds like the council's problem or yours.
Raumati also has the most private properties at risk from erosion of anywhere on the coast, and a 1976 storm took up to 15 metres of shoreline. For homes close to the seawall, which runs about 3 km along the beach, storm surge and erosion can damage outdoor pipes, stormwater outlets and drains near the beachfront. After a big storm, check for broken pipes on the seaward side of the house and any outlet that is no longer clear. Gas here usually means LPG bottles rather than a piped network.
Local tip: If your Raumati bach sits empty for weeks, turn the water off at the meter before you leave so a split fitting cannot run up a bill.
Emergency Plumber in Raumati: Local Factors
Salt spray corrodes outdoor taps, fittings and regulators faster near the coast, so failures there are often sudden. We replace corroded parts with materials that suit a marine site instead of matching what failed.

Emergency Plumber Raumati FAQs
Can a storm along the Raumati seawall damage my drains?
It can. Heavy seas and erosion near the beachfront can break outdoor pipes and block stormwater outlets. After a storm we check the seaward side of the property and repair what has been damaged.
Will you fix it on the night or just make it safe?
Most jobs are fixed on the night. If a part has to be ordered, we make everything safe and come back as soon as we have it.
Who do I call if water is gushing from the street or the berm?
That is usually the public network. Report it to Tiaki Wai on 0800 842 549 in Wellington City, the Hutt, Upper Hutt and Porirua, or to Kāpiti Coast District Council on the coast. Leaks on your side of the toby are yours to fix.
