In a business, a plumbing fault costs more than the repair. A blocked kitchen drain can shut a café on Cuba Street for the day. A failed hot water unit closes an office bathroom. A backflow device that misses its annual test puts the building warrant of fitness at risk. Commercial plumbing is about keeping the doors open as much as fixing pipes.
We handle reactive callouts, planned maintenance, compliance work and fit-outs, and schedule disruptive work outside trading hours wherever we can.
Pricing: quotes are free, and every job gets a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Grease traps and trade waste
Any business that cooks commercially has to manage what goes down the drain, and needs a consent to discharge trade waste. Since 1 July 2026, Wellington City, Hutt City, Upper Hutt and Porirua councils have delegated trade waste administration and enforcement to Tiaki Wai, with no significant changes to the rules. In Wellington City the Wellington Trade Waste Bylaw 2016 applies. On the Kāpiti Coast, Kāpiti Coast District Council runs trade waste under its own Trade Waste Bylaw 2019.
Tiaki Wai's criteria for a well-run kitchen are practical: a trap that is fit for purpose and working, cleaned by a council-approved contractor under a service contract, refilled with about ten minutes of cold water after cleaning, with no risk of contaminating stormwater, and food scraps binned before dishes are rinsed. We install and replace grease traps, clear the kitchen lines that feed them, and arrange grease trap cleaning on a schedule that suits your volume of cooking, with records kept for when anyone asks.
How It Works
Backflow and the building warrant of fitness
Commercial sites usually need backflow prevention at the boundary and often at points inside the building. Devices that are on a building's compliance schedule are tested by an Independent Qualified Person for the building warrant of fitness, and annual testing is standard practice under the NZ Backflow Testing Standard. On the Kāpiti Coast, the council requires a backflow device for commercial properties on new connections, meter renewals, meter moves or separations, and for some business activities.
We install, repair and replace backflow devices and carry out backflow testing, so a failed test gets fixed quickly and the warrant stays current.
Older buildings and apartments
Central Wellington has a large stock of older commercial and multi-unit buildings, particularly in Te Aro and Thorndon, and some are on the earthquake-prone building register while they wait for strengthening. Plumbing in these buildings can be decades old, run through tight risers and shared with many tenants, and strengthening work often means pipes have to be moved, isolated or replaced around the builders.
We work with body corporates, building managers and engineers to plan shutdowns, give tenants notice and keep services running where possible. Because the region sits on active faults, we also look at the basics that help after an earthquake: accessible isolation valves, secured cylinders and pipework that can cope with some movement.
Working around your business
Commercial sites come with constraints homes do not: health and safety inductions, tenant notice periods, building managers, and customers who should not see a jetter in the dining room. We plan around them, carry out disruptive work early, late or on closed days, and leave the site clean and ready to trade.
We work across the central city, suburban shopping centres and the region's business and industrial areas, from Te Aro and Kilbirnie to Petone, Lower Hutt, Porirua and Paraparaumu.
